Guernsey Amnesty Group's current
campaign 2007.
There are currently two areas that we are active in.
Iran
Together with
groups in other countries we are actively seeking the release from custody in
Iran of a number of prisoners of conscience who are held incommunicado at
secret locations, psychological pressure having been used to obtain
"confessions" and convictions after unfair trials by special courts.
We attempt to put pressure on Iranian authorities through letter writing and
publicity, and to quash the verdict of the revolutionary court whose procedures
do not conform to minimum international standards for a fair trial and to
release immediately and unconditionally all those who may be prisoners of conscience.

Russia
Justice for all in Russia
Despite the Russian Government's declared commitment to safeguard rights,
accountability for human rights abuses and justice for victims in the Russian
Federation remain an abstract. We write to Ministers and Government departments
encouraging them to introduce laws to criminalise torture, make domestic
violence a criminal offence, eliminate elements of the passport and
registration system that serve as a basis for systematic discrimination and
abolish the death penalty.
We attend with stalls at local events and attempt to bring information on these
campaigns to Guernsey.
